Students of Teltow Elementary School wash their hands with soap using the WASHaLOT 3.0 while physical distancing is observed

The Teltow Elementary School is the first school in Berlin, Germany to use the #WASHaLOT 3.0 hand washing system for pandemic prevention and response. Recognizing the importance of hand hygiene in this COVID-19 pandemic, the school has taken the initiative and, with expert advice from GIZ, has installed four WASHaLOTs 3.0 in the schoolyard so that all students can wash their hands with soap and water before entering the building.

On behalf of the German government, GIZ, through its Regional Fit for School Programme and Sector Programme Sustainable Sanitation, has developed the #WASHaLOT. The new mobile version 3.0 evolved from implementation experiences from Southeast Asia and Africa. It is a prefabricated system designed to accommodate group hygiene activities but is easily adjustable for pandemic response and physical distancing.
