The Fit for School (FIT) Programme in Indonesia began in 2012 and was initially implemented by the West Java Province UKS Team with technical assistance from the GIZ Regional FIT Program. Beginning with 12 model schools in Bandung and Indramayu, the program’s interventions were eventually replicated in more than 600 schools in 6 provinces through the initiatives of various partners.
For its second phase (2016-2018), FIT Programme continued to support the City of Bandung in its efforts to manage the program’s city-wide scale-up through establishment of a monitoring system for WASH in schools (WinS) based on the Three-Star Approach. At the same time, the FIT Programme in collaboration with UNICEF supported the WinS agenda of the Ministry of Education and Culture (MOEC) through various modes of technical assistance ranging from co-organizing the 5th WinS International Learning Exchange to supporting the development of the national Guidelines for Elementary School Sanitation Development.
By the end of 2018, the GIZ Regional FIT Programme entered its 3rd phase in Indonesia under a Cooperation Agreement with the Regional Center for Food and Nutrition of the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO RECFON) to strengthen the link and synergies between school sanitation and nutrition. Through this collaboration, the programme supports the development of models for the integrated school-based management of WASH and nutrition programs in schools.
