GIZ works with UNICEF Cambodia to support the implementation of the Minimum Requirements Guidelines for WASH in Schools, following principles of the ‘Three Star Approach for WASH in Schools’. Part of the support is a tailored training-program that focuses on enabling education officials on district and province level to support schools in their area and school principals to improve their WASH situation.
Furthermore, GIZ offered capacity development to several NGOs, enabling them to integrate the FIT into their programming, and supports SHD in orienting interested NGOs and private partners on the Minimum Requirements for WinS and the accompanying training package. This led to stronger alignment and coordination between implementing partners. GIZ and the School Health Department are now working closely with the World Food Programme on the intersection of nutrition and WASH, with World Vision Cambodia and Eco-Soap Bank on integrating supply of materials with capacity development of district and provincial offices of education, and with the Don Bosco Technical School on pre-fabricated group washing facilities that strengthen vocational skills while producing cost-efficient hygiene solutions.
